Attendees will learn about water wells and pumps as relevant to the State of Michigan.  The program will begin by covering Michigan's unique geology and the groundwater chemistry that affects them in the water industry.  We will then move on to cover how water wells are engineered and designed for maximum efficiency and longevity, the permitting process and requirements and lastly how to rehabilitate and maintain water wells in Michigan.  The next topic will cover the design and engineering of well pumps including types of pumps, column and drop pipe assemblies, basic wellhouse piping and meters and how pumps can be maintained, tested and overhauled for maximum performance. We will also cover the topic of controls and SCADA to give operators an idea of the most current technologies for controlling their wells and pump systems.  Finally, we will touch on basic water treatment including iron, manganese, arsenic and radionuclide removal as well as softening systems.
