Position Summary
Under the direction of the Utilities Foreman, Assistant Foreman and Director of UMS, performs skilled maintenance associated with utilities system infrastructure and repair. Performs routine, preventative and emergency construction, repair and maintenance of equipment, lines and devices in the utilities and drainage systems. Also may function in the role of Utilities team leader on field projects where the Foreman is not present. Serves in an on-call rotation with other departmental personnel in case of a utility emergency after hours. May be required to assume the daily field duties of the Foreman and/or Assistant Foreman if that person is unavailable.

POSITION SUMMARY:

 

Responsible for the shift operation of wastewater treatment plant to comply with USEPA/DEQ discharge permit. Requires skilled working involving operation, repair and maintenance of mechanical and electrical equipment. This position requires a working knowledge of pumps, blowers, motors and specific mechanical equipment. It also requires knowledge of piping and fluid hydraulics as well as routine and preventive maintenance. This position also requires a working knowledge of confined space and hazardous material. 

 

This position as all positions at this plant requires a working knowledge of computers, as we are computer generated and computer operational.

 

 

Must possess a Michigan class “D” wastewater licenses.

The Kalamazoo Lake Sewer and Water Authority

 

Operations Supervisor

 

The Kalamazoo Lake Sewer and Water Authority services the sewer and water needs of the Cities of Saugatuck and Douglas along with portions of Saugatuck and Laketown Townships consisting of a combined service population of approximately 3,000. The service area is located along the shores of Lake Michigan. The KLSWA was created in 1978 to operate and maintain the sewer collection and treatment system which includes 15 lift stations and a wastewater treatment plant. In 1980 the KLSWA began operation and maintenance on the water systems for the communities it serves. This water system consists of three well fields with two wells per field along with an Iron Removal Plant, a 1MG ground storage reservoir and a booster pump station.

 

The position of Operations Supervisor is responsible for the daily operations insuring compliance with all State and Federal regulations as they pertain to the maintenance and operations of water and sewer systems. This position reports to the Manager.

 

The minimum requirement upon hire is a State of Michigan S-4 and D-4 licenses along with a valid Michigan Vehicle Operators license. The candidate will need to acquire a CDL-A w/ N endorsement within 90 days of hire. The ideal candidates will posses the prior mentioned licenses and a minimum of 5 years acceptable experience in water and sewer utilities along with some post secondary education.

 

Salary Range: $23.00 to $28.00 per hour DOQ plus benefits including MERS/medical/dental/vision.
